Already well established in most of the mountainous regions of Europe, the electric mountain bike should not be long in making a hit in Morocco. Jorg Hysek and Thierry Chardonnens, who know all the potential of the landscapes around the ochre city, are intimately convinced of it. So, rather than taking the train, these two decided to be from the beginning and to install an E-Bike “eco-village” 30 minutes from Marrakech, at the exit of the douar El Keria, in one of the most remote corners of the desert of Agafay. «With Jorg, we always wanted to realize a business together, in Morocco, explains Thierry Chardonnens. It is a country that we really like, the landscapes are sumptuous. But by dint of coming there, we realized that except the camel and the quads, the leisure activities in Agafay are rare and not always very ecological. That’s how we came up with the idea of electric mountain bikes. Offering an eco-responsible, sporty activity that does not mean suffering is something that makes sense to us. »

Reciprocally insurer and watch designer by profession, Thierry Chardonnens and Jorg Hysek, both in their sixties, have launched this adventure one year ago, with the aim of offering to their customers “an authentic and high quality service”. Now that the borders have reopened, their little business is starting to make a name for itself and for several good reasons. First of all, the mountain bikes they offer for rent are all stamped with Flyer, a Swiss brand that is now beating the competition thanks to its on-board technology. Secondly, recruitment. To offer the best playground, the duo has hired two Moroccan guides who speak several languages and know a lot about the Agafay reg desert.

This region with its majestic panoramas is indeed suitable for all styles of routes. Fly me to the Moon (that’s the name of their company) proposes several itineraries that vary according to the level of the participants – it is not necessary to be in great physical condition – but also according to their desires. The scenery is also very varied, like the eucalyptus forest that can be seen from the pleasant eco-village where all departures take place. “The advantage of being here is that we can multiply the points of view. You can easily escape into the desert, into the canyons, join single tracks that lead to the beautiful lake area, go off-piste or why not do a circuit over several days in the foothills of the Atlas. Everything is possible, including catering during the tour”, argues Jorg, for whom every detail counts. One more concern that definitely convinced us: the E-bike village of our two Swiss pensioners has a future.
